New Scenario-Question Generator — Version 5

I’ve significantly improved my Scenario-Question Generator Template, now in Version 5.

This is the fifth generation of the template. It is designed to help you think through how to craft a scenario question that works.

The template specifically:

• Helps generate questions that distinguish between those who can make work decisions and those who can’t.
• Encourages a focus on work issues and work settings.
• Pushes you to be specific about your learning objectives.
• Nudges you to highlight common mistakes that might be overlooked.
• Aligns with the SEDA model’s insistence that learners ought to be able to EVALUATE realistic situations.
• Reminds scenario-writers to avoid unnecessary hints that short-circuit cognition.
• Prompts scenario designs that require deeper cognitive processing than most multiple-choice approaches.
• Provides a detailed example scenario question.
• Provides a detailed worked-example of a scenario question.
